Cyprus Increases Blue Flag Beaches for 2014

#Cyprus has now got 58 Blue Flag beaches – up from 57 in 2013.

Fifty Eight beaches in #Cyprus were awarded the Blue Flag external on the basis of environmental management criteria covering sewage treatment, coastal planning and protection, bathing water quality, safety and services and environmental education.

The Blue Flag is an exclusive eco-label awarded to over 3200 beaches and marinas in 36 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, New Zealand, Canada and the Caribbean.

In #Paphos area the beaches with the #Blue Flags are:

Alykes beach of Pafos Municipality
Municipality Camping site of Polis Chrysochous (facilities for the handicapped)
Coral Bay beach of Pegeia Municipality (facilities for the handicapped)
Faros beach of Pafos Municipality
Geroskipou beach of Geroskipou Municipality (facilities for the handicapped)
Laourou beach of Pegeia Municipality
Municipal Baths of Pafos Municipality (facilities for the handicapped)
Municipal Beach of Polis Chrysochous Municipality (facilities for the handicapped)
Pachyammos beach of Pafos Municipality (facilities for the handicapped)
Vrysoudia A beach of Pafos Municipality
Vrysoudia B beach of Pafos Municipality (facilities for the handicapped)

The Blue Flag works towards sustainable development of beaches and marinas through strict criteria dealing with Water Quality, Environmental Education and Information, Environmental Management, and Safety and Other Services.

The Blue Flag Programme is owned and run by the non-government, non-profit organisation the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
