The Cyprus Rally 2015 will take place from September 25-27 with the participation of competitors from the European and the Middle East Rally Championships. A Super Special Stage of the rally will pass, as it did for the first time last year, via the line dividing the island since 1974 into the Turkish occupied part of Nicosia.
According to an announcement , the crews will participate in 16 special stages. The 664.18 kilometre long rally is the only rally worldwide which hosts two FIA-sanctioned rounds, the eighth round of the European Rally Championship and the fifth round of the Middle East Rally Championship.
Cyprus Automobile Association President Antonis Michaelides told CNA that the Super Special Stage of the Rally, that will take place on September 26, in the centre of Nicosia, will pass, as it did last year, through the so called Green Line, dividing the capital, to the north.
He said the Cyprus government and all political parties had been informed and had given their approval, adding that the organiser of the rally was in contact with the UN peace keeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), “since certain special measures will be taken within the buffer zone,” which is patrolled by UNFICYP.
Michaelides stressed that all terms and conditions for all special stages would apply all along this stage as well, and that the Cyprus Automobile Association was the only organiser and supervisor of the Super Special Stage.
During the rally, competitors will head out of the town to tackle the special stages situated in the Nicosia and Larnca districts. The event features mixed surface stages of gravel and tarmac.
Larnaca will be the hosting city for the ceremonial start and the finish of the rally. (CNA)
