That is the message behind the new ‘Beachfluencer’ campaign, an initiative encouraging residents and visitors alike to take a little more responsibility for the beaches they enjoy and help protect them for future generations.
The idea is refreshingly simple: before you leave the beach, leave it a little cleaner than you found it.
Pick up a few pieces of litter on your way out. It could be a plastic bottle, a cigarette butt, a food wrapper or a discarded bag. It might not seem like much, but when thousands of people make the same small effort, the difference can be remarkable.

Plastic pollution remains a particular concern. A bottle, bag or other piece of plastic left behind after a day at the beach can remain in the environment for decades, potentially finding its way into the sea and causing lasting harm.
The Beachfluencer campaign hopes to turn something as ordinary as picking up litter into a collective movement.
Anyone taking part is encouraged to photograph their clean-up efforts and share them on social media using @beachfluencer and the hashtag #beachfluencer. By sharing these small acts, participants can encourage friends, family and fellow visitors to do the same and preserve the Blue Flag beaches Cyprus.
And that is where the campaign’s name really comes into its own.
