The Road to Viklari (The Last Castle) reopened May 2024

Viklari, The Last Castle is a hidden gem in the district of Paphos, Cyprus. Known by locals for its great food and even better views, this secret hotspot is perched on a hilltop overlooking the Akamas Peninsula. Let us share some details about this unique restaurant, as well as our recommendation that this is a must, not a maybe: For the past year the main road to Viklari has been closed and we can confirm that it is now open. We took a drive there today from Coral Bay and this is the video me made of the journey. The drive time from Coral Bay is approx. 20-minutes, but be careful as the road when you enter Akamas nature reserve is unpaved. Here you need to take the drive very easy and loose stones etc. will chip your paintwork if you are not careful. We strongly advise checking with your car rental company if you intend taking your hire car off road.

  • Location: Viklari The Last Castle is situated in the Akamas Peninsula, offering breathtaking views of unspoiled beaches and the deep blue sea.

  • Atmosphere: The restaurant is an open-air establishment surrounded by fruit plantations. Its rustic charm and outstanding vistas make it a must-visit spot.

  • Getting There: Don’t be put off by the rough road that leads to Viklari. Trust me, it’s well worth the drive!

  • Ambiance: As you approach, you’ll be greeted by an outstanding view. A beautiful stone-lined walkway leads you into the restaurant area, which is covered with vines. The vines provide lovely shade and create a mosaic-like reflection on the floor. Spring and summer are the best times to visit when everything is beautifully green.

  • Menu: Viklari keeps it simple. They serve only one menu for lunch, and you can choose either chicken or pork (or a mixed option). The meal comes with gigantic chips, freshly prepared salad, bread, and, of course, wine. Quality-wise, the food surpasses many restaurants in Paphos, especially in the harbor area.

  • Booking Ahead: This place gets busy, even on weekdays. If you want to secure a table with a view, I recommend booking ahead.

  • Cost: The cost per person for the full experience is a mere €15.00 excluding drinks. We believe this is exceptional value for money.

  • Local Tip: If you have some spare time, consider visiting Avakas Gorge—there’s a turn toward it when you leave the restaurant.

  • Opening Hours: Viklari is open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.
