Viklari Last Castle

Located in the Akamas nature reserve, Viklari the Last Castle is a must visit when in Coral Bay. Known only by locals and people who have previously visited as the best Souvla in town, Viklari serves the freshest barbeque, with panoramic views over the nature reserve and turquoise Mediterranean Sea. Souvla is the Cypriot style of barbeque where the freshest meats are skewered and rotated slowly over hot coals until tender and juicy.

Cypriots love grilled barbequed meat and Souvla is synonymous with outdoor summer cooking here in Cyprus. In the summer heat of Cyprus, you will find it absolutely impossible to ignore the mouth-watering aroma wafting from Viklari, packed with sizzling chunks of pork, chicken and served with a fresh salad, village bread and potatoes slowly cooked in the wood oven. Viklari specialise in Souvla and have been in operation more than 20 years. Family run and never advertised, the Last Castle serves the best Souvla along with a full selection of local and international wines, beers, and spirits. Whilst You may think it’s easy to cook meat by slapping a skewer onto a BBQ, if it’s not done properly with the correct number of coals, at the right height and for the right amount of time, you will end up with dry and burnt or conversely undercooked meat.

At the Viklari, the menu is simple – BBQ pork or chicken served with a bowl of salad and giant potato wedges or baked potatoes for the health conscious. Simple yet oh so yummy – the meat really melts in your mouth. While you really need to be a carnivore to appreciate the wonderful Souvla at the Viklari Last Castle, they also do a lovely fasola dish (bean stew) which is great for vegetarians and also fish if you book both these dishes in advance.
